Onesie Day for Wellington Free Ambulance

To conclude our Inquiry into Real Life Superheroes we thought about what we could do to be superheroes in our community.
When Alesha the paramedic visited, she talked to us about how lucky we are in Wellington because we are the only city in the Southern Hemisphere that has a free ambulance service. Rata organised a Onesie Day to raise money for Wellington Free Ambulance so that it can stay free for us.
We went to all the classes in the school to collect gold coin donations which we stuck onto an ambulance picture. Thank you all for your donations, we raised over $550!
Alesha told us that this will be able to be used for medicine and equipment used to save lives. We really are superheroes!

More Superheroes!

What a fantastic term we have had in Rata learning about real life superheroes! We have been so lucky being visited by whānau of Rata who have come to talk to us about their jobs.

Huge thanks to police officers Gini, Shelley and Rob as well as police dog Quita for visiting us! We learnt about how police officers and dogs keep our communities safe.

 

Next we were visited by Kathryn's Dad Raymond, who is a builder! We learnt about how builders help people by building their homes and also by fixing anything in their homes or buildings that are unsafe or need repairs. Raymond also showed us some of the tools builder use and equipment that they have to keep themselves safe while working. Thanks so much Raymond for sharing with us!
